Sex Drive Review

Watching the new comedy Sex Drive, it was tough for me to restrain my inner David Spade as I watched its familiar story unfold: "I liked this the first time, when it was called Superbad. I mean, Road Trip. I mean, American Pie. I mean, The Sure Thing." In all honesty, seldom have a genre's conventions been as thoroughly plundered as the teen comedy, much less those that revolve around horny boys looking for love – or more often lust – with unattainable dream girls. All of which doesn't make those movies inherently bad, mind you; The Girl Next Door was terrific, and it was almost a carbon copy of Risky Business. But Sex Drive occupies that disappointing realm of artistic achievement where the filmmakers are just incapable of overcoming those preconstructed clichés, ultimately resulting in a comedy that's as underwhelmingly inspiring as the kid who brought a blow-up doll as his prom date, but forgot to bring the bike pump.
