The Last King of Scotland (Kevin Macdonald, 2006) Sky Movies Drama, 8pm Forest Whitaker's performance as Idi Amin, the Ugandan dictator of the 1970s, is a mesmerising, terrifying portrait of megalomania, and it charges this gut-wrenching thriller. Adapted from Giles Foden's bestseller, it has James McAvoy as a (fictional) young Scottish doctor who is adopted by the despot and finds his new life of luxury and compromised morality growing ever more dangerous. 5x2: Cinq Fois Deux (François Ozon, 2004) 12.20am, Film4 Initially the reverse chronology appears a trite device, but it becomes a surprisingly affecting means of expressing the pain of a marriage gone wrong. Valerie Bruni-Tedeschi and Stéphane Freiss are the unhappy couple, followed through five scenes from their divorce to their first meeting at a seaside resort: an intense and moving drama. Death Proof (Quentin Tarantino, 2007) 12.30am, Sky Movies, Action Thriller With Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, this formed the deliberately trashy US Grindhouse double bill. It's a highly enjoyable, tongue-in-cheek homage to 70s exploitation movies, with Kurt Russell as murderous Stuntman Mike who, in his supercharged auto, slaughters unwary women on the road - until he bumps into the wrong bunch of gutsy gals, including Rosario Dawson.
