It has been a long, hot, bone-dry summer at America’s arthouses. There were a few April specialty hits like Overture’s The Visitor ($9.4M cume), Thinkfilm’s Then She Found Me ($3.75M cume) and Fox Searchlight’s Young @ Heart ($4M cume), which played into the summer, and a pair of Penelope Cruz movies, Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona ($21M cume) from Weinstein and Samuel Goldwyn’s Elegy ($3.4M cume), both provided a boost in August, but the drought finally ended this past weekend.
