 | The Warlords is a confused and confusing action movie set during an endless war in 19th-century China. Three bandit leaders - the formidable trio of Andy Lau, Jet Li and Takeshi Kaneshiro - join forces to protect the interests of their village clans and help bring about a lasting peace. They swear an oath of brotherly allegiance and plan to introduce a new humanity into warfare. Inevitably, they are cheated by the wily old politicians they pay allegiance to, and their own plans to anticipate the Geneva conventions come to nothing. I was left feeling battle weary and little better informed.
