Film review: Outlanders

Dominic Lees's Outlanders, the tale of a young Pole journeying from Gdansk to London to find his older brother, a once promising football player, is poor. Naturally, the improbably innocent youngster discovers his brother is ruthlessly exploiting illegal immigrants working on building sites, but after becoming involved with a beautiful Russian girl, also an illegal, the lad doesn't know where his duties lie. Coming after Frears's Dirty Pretty Things, Cronenberg's Eastern Promises and Meadows's Somers Town, this is a hopelessly unconvincing affair.
