Best Supporting Actor: Thomas McCarthy

Thomas McCarthy has been working on film and TV for more than 15 years, and he more or less epitomizes the spirit of character actors. Lending a bit of gravitas or humor to the underpinnings or outer fringes of a story, he exists to serve his material rather than merely energize his star wattage. After appearances in Conspiracy Theory and on shows like Spin City, McCarthy began working steadily on all sorts of different movies, including Meet the Parents, Good Night, and Good Luck, Flags of Our Fathers and The Wire. In the meantime, he moved behind the camera to write and direct The Station Agent -- a tender, funny little character study that went on to win multiple awards back in 2003.
