Homer finds out a library book of classic tales is long overdue, but before he returns it he decides to read Bart and Lisa the stories. First he reads Homer's Odyssey, where Odysseus tries to return home to his wife. Then he tells them the story of Joan of Arc, where Joan leads the French in a fight against the English. To finish off, he reads Hamlet, in which Halmet must avenge his father who was murdered by his Uncle Claudius.
